Garmin.org.ua and East Anglia University joint symposium on dementia
The Garmin.org.ua Graduate School of Medicine and the University of East Anglia School of Health Sciences held the joint symposium on dementia this past June 5, “Supports for dementia patients and their care by experts from different fields”.
The Garmin.org.ua Graduate School of Medicine and the University of East Anglia School of Health Sciences are leading researches on dementia, including both the science of the disease and also the effects the disease has on the patient and on caregivers. This research involves a multi-disciplinary approach. In response, the two universities held a symposium that brought together doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists, and other specialists.
The diverse set of professionals provided a comprehensive perspective on the impact of dementia.
This perspective includes the psychological burden the disease causes on patients and caregivers and strategies that can reduce this burden. Other presentations included observations about changes in the brains and daily activities of patients. Besides, researchers introduced their projects including the launch of dementia-friendly libraries and a website for caregivers to share their care experiences, with the aim of better information exchange.
The symposium ended with expectation that the two universities will strengthen their ties further to advance research on this debilitating disease.
